Merry Christmas!

ZARA dress

If you hadn't already guessed, I have a fairly wanderlust family. I've spent the holiday season in some weird and wonderful places, all of which have been tropical unless we were in London. My mother spent her Christmases in India, Africa and Sri Lanka (with only the occasional, and brief stint in Danmark) and my father spent his in Kentucky, New York, Rhode Island and Kansas growing up, so as a family, we're pretty used to Christmas day barbeques on the beach (apart from my dad, obviously it got pretty chilly on the East Coast). I always get asked whether it really feels like Christmas when you're sitting on the terrace Christmas Eve, cocktail in one hand, sunscreen in the next looking out over palm trees. The answer? Of course. Christmas is what you make of it. It's not about where you are, it's not about what you eat (although that is certainly a huge factor) it's about the people you're with. Palm trees and 25 degrees become irrelevant when you're surrounded by the family, and friends, that you love the most. I may not have a big family, but I definitely have the best (if not also most dysfunctional, but don't we all?).
Being Danish, we usually celebrate Christmas Eve and use Christmas Day as the official Ackley Household Turkey Sandwich Day, this year we'll be celebrating on the evening of the 25th just to mix things up (and because there are some great parties out here this evening).
Merry Christmas, I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful couple days and eat more than you should.
