Barcelona moments

Photos are a mix of the whole weekend jambled together because who even likes thing in chronological order, right?

So I got back from Barcelona late sunday night and have been full on working since then on school work, I recently dropped Art to pick up Biology instead and thus have two weeks of biological knowledge that needs to be in my head pretty quickly. Anyway, back to the exciting stuff! Our weekend in Barcelona was really lovely; I fell in love with the buildings pretty quickly. The winding alleyways around El Borne and the old quarter are mesmerizing and Gaudi's gothic architecture is just awe inspiring. We spent a lot of our time by El Borne wandering around and also made it up to Sagrada Familia and Park Guell. I was quite speechless, being someone who usually feels uncomfortable with churches and religious symbolism (nee naw Atheist alert) I was amazed at how natural Sagrada Familia was. It felt very personal and was spectacular. It took Gaudi some 43 years to build and when asked why he wasn't rushing, he replied 'Don't worry my client isn't in a hurry' which I just love. Park Guell felt like some kind of wonderland with all the bright colors, twisting columns and archways. We stopped along the way to get lunch at various little places, winding through the little alleyways (did I mention I loved them? I really did) and stopping at whatever looked good. My favorite meal was the Mexican we had the final day at some little haunt down a side road, it was ridiculously tasty. We also made it to the Picasso museum and since I'm Picasso's biggest fan (holla) it really made the trip for me. You rarely get to see so much of his work together so I was in heaven. It was the first time I've been to mainland Spain (odd since I travel so much, eh?) and it completely wowed me. Luckily I was able to avoid the notorious pick pockets by clinging onto my bag (containing my camera and basically the rest of my life) for dear life and hissing (not literally) at anyone who came near. So what was my favorite thing about the city? The supermarkets are called Supermercats, which sounds like Super Meerkat...and who doesn't love Super Meerkats?

  21. Such beautiful pics! I know what you mean about encountering religious art/symbolism that really speaks to you. Even as a Christian, I find a lot of the religious artwork from centuries past flat or a little creepy. But then I got to see El Greco's work in Madrid - the beauty and pure meaning in those paintings literally brought tears to my eyes.
