An ode to Acne Studios

ACNE STUDIOS pre-fall 2013

I'm here to discuss how darn well Acne nailed pre-fall. They just coined the whole damn thing. They retained a sense of summer by integrating whites and pastels in with winter shapes and layers. They took heavy duty boots, and lightened them by essentially removing half of them. Your feet may get a bit chilly, so in essence it's not overly practical but that gigantic shearling coat will cover the gap. It's captured the idea of give and take; layering the top half with knitwear, shearling, shirts, coats, layers, layers, layers and then removing the bulkiness with slimline trousers and barely-there boots. It is the perfect relationship of 'pre' and 'fall', with just enough of each.
It's clinical but sharp, and homely in a sense. It allows you to salute the arrival of winter without saying goodbye to summer, and if like me, top heavy silhouettes are your mode of choice, it ticks every box. There are some debatable color choices, see above mix of mint and beige, but it works in a strange way, especially against the outset of creamy whites and the darker navy's and black that permeated other parts of the collection.
Dreamy, is all I really have to say.

  9. This literally looks perfect like a dream. I love how it seems to remind of summer and winter at the same time. It's crazy because the two seasons are literally opposite but I feel cold yet warm. I've never heard of them either, but it seems their collection will be amazing. The sheer pureness of it really blows my eyes away. It makes me feel all minty fresh but also as if I'm relaxing in the sun with a cool drink. Perfect combo.
