Conceding to skorts

TOPSHOP top, ZARA skort, ASOS sunglasses

As I grow older I find myself gravitating more and more towards things that I swore a never ending hatred against in my youth (because, obviously I’m an old lady now). It all began with an Avocado. Growing up, I always disliked green food. Dr Suess could not convince me to the ways of ‘green eggs and ham’ no matter how cute his hat was. Then, one day, I made the leap. It began with guacamole, and now Avocado and I have eloped to an island far far away. Metaphorically of course, we all know you can't travel with fresh fruit and vegetables to foreign countries. Then, as I hit 15, this trend of conceding to past hatreds paused, and I found myself discovering new dislikes (read: Mocks. The rubber moccasin. Why Crocs? Just why?). Such is the way of adolescence, I’ve lost count of the many times I’ve ‘hated everyone’ and ‘I just want to be alone forever preferably with Ryan Gosling’ because the world just didn’t quite go my way. Welcome to being a teenager, world. Not all it cracked up to be.

You may be wandering how vegetables and rubber shoes equate to something fashion related, it does, I promise. A few years ago when Netball was compulsory at school and I didn’t even come within a mile of making the A-team, we were made to wear skorts. I hated them; they symbolized all that was wrong with the world (read: group sports and hybrid clothing. Remember jeggings? No, I don't want to either). My inner 13 year old anarchist cried ‘Never!’ and refused to wear them, resulting in copious detentions. I never understood this as allowing me near any kind of sporting equipment always ended in injury, always. I survived, but only just. But back to business, you may have noticed the presence of a certain Zara skort on this blog (see above). I have conceded, Skort. You win. But only if you’re crisp, white and don’t have ‘D-SQUAD’ emblazed on your backside.

  7. I think it's quite normal, during adolescence, to ri-discover things we were used to hate when we were younger... It happened to me with skirts, skinny jeans and volleyball. No, not really, still hate volleyball...

  9. I was also forced to wear a hideous skort and couldn't for the life of me understand why such a hideous creation even existed! But fast forward six years and I now have two!

  16. the skort has also lured me in and i ended up with both the white and black version of the one you're wearing. i feel like we're going to have a lovely summer together, even if i do sort of raise my eyebrow every time i get them out of my wardrobe.

hope you're having a lovely holiday, you lucky thing xo

  17. My tastes and likes have totally changed as I grow older too. Maybe it's not that we're older, but we're just a little bit more wise ;)

    1. Not "every", I've always loved avocado. Maybe I'm weird.
One thing I hated were green peas. I still hate them. They're just nasty.
